Service Authorization & Terms of Repair
By signing below or submitting a device for service (in-store or by mail), I acknowledge and agree to the following terms:
1) Authorization to Perform Service
I authorize Tekkies Inc. (“Tekkies”) to perform diagnostic, repair, testing, and related services on my device and/or equipment (“Device”). I understand service may include disassembly, firmware/software work, soldering or micro-repair, cleaning, data transfer, and installation or removal of parts.
If additional issues are discovered during service, Tekkies may pause work and contact me for approval before proceeding, unless immediate action is reasonably necessary to prevent further damage or ensure safe testing.
2) Data, Privacy, and Access
I understand that data loss can occur during diagnosis or repair due to software updates, storage failure, corrosion, short circuits, encryption, or required restores. I am solely responsible for backing up my data prior to service.
If I request data backup, recovery, or transfer services, I understand these services are best-effort only and not guaranteed.
I authorize Tekkies to access the Device and its contents only as reasonably necessary to diagnose, repair, test, or perform requested services. I understand that passcodes, passwords, or biometric access may be required for testing and functionality verification.
3) No Responsibility for Pre-Existing Conditions / Hidden Damage
I understand that many Devices have pre-existing, latent, or hidden issues, including but not limited to:
Liquid or corrosion damage
Prior repair attempts or third-party parts
Heat damage or battery swelling
Cracked boards, fractured solder joints, or intermittent faults
Manufacturer defects or age-related wear
These conditions may cause additional failures during or after repair, even when reasonable care is used. Tekkies is not responsible for failures resulting from such conditions.
4) Risk of Parts or Component Failure
I understand that during attempted repair or testing, components may fail and the Device may become unstable or nonfunctional due to factors including but not limited to:
Age, wear, corrosion, or liquid exposure
Prior damage or unauthorized repair attempts
Manufacturing defects or firmware/software issues
Fragile connectors, flex cables, ports, or micro-soldered components
Inherent electrostatic discharge (ESD) risks present in electronics work
I acknowledge that some repairs are attempt-based and may not be successful even with proper procedures.
5) Limitation of Liability (Key Protection)
To the maximum extent permitted by Illinois law:
Tekkies is not liable for data loss, loss of use, loss of business, loss of profits, or any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages related to service.
Tekkies is not responsible for device failure resulting from pre-existing damage, corrosion, liquid exposure, prior repairs, or component fatigue.
Tekkies’ total liability, if any, is strictly limited to the amount actually paid for the specific service giving rise to the claim.
Under no circumstances shall Tekkies be liable for the replacement value of the Device.
6) Estimates and Approvals
Any quote provided is an estimate only, based on reported symptoms and initial inspection. Final cost may change if additional issues are discovered.
Repairs requiring additional cost will be communicated for approval when reasonably possible. Declining additional work does not negate diagnostic or already-performed labor charges.
7) Diagnostic Fee
If the Device is deemed not repairable, or if I decline repair after diagnosis or estimate, I agree to pay a $30 diagnostic fee, unless waived by Tekkies in writing.
8) Parts
Replacement parts may be new, used, refurbished, or aftermarket, unless otherwise stated. Cosmetic differences may occur.
Original parts removed during service may be retained or disposed of unless I request their return at check-in, where permitted by law.
9) Payment, Possession, and Repair Lien
Payment is due at pickup or prior to return shipment unless otherwise agreed in writing.
To the extent permitted by Illinois law, Tekkies may retain possession of the Device until all charges (including diagnostics, labor, parts, storage, and shipping) are paid in full.
10) Pickup, Storage Fees, and Abandoned Property
After service completion or notice of repair decline/non-repairable status, I agree to retrieve my Device within 30 days.
After 30 days, a $1 per day storage fee may apply.
If the Device remains unclaimed for 60 days after notice (or longer if required by law), it may be considered abandoned property.
For abandoned Devices, I authorize Tekkies to recycle, sell for parts, or otherwise dispose of the Device and apply any proceeds to unpaid balances and costs, where permitted by law. Any remaining balance may still be owed.
11) Limited Warranty
Unless otherwise stated on the invoice:
Repair labor is warranted for 90 days from completion only for the specific repaired issue.
Warranty does not cover:
New or unrelated issues
Accidental or liquid damage
Software changes, updates, or resets
Misuse, abuse, or drops
Pre-existing or hidden damage
Devices with corrosion or liquid exposure
12) Mail-In Repair Terms & Shipping Disclaimer
For mail-in or shipped Devices, I acknowledge and agree that:
I am responsible for proper packaging, insurance, and tracking when shipping my Device to Tekkies.
Tekkies is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage occurring during inbound shipping.
If return shipping is arranged by Tekkies, liability for loss or damage is limited to the shipping carrier’s declared coverage, if any.
Tekkies is not liable for Devices lost, delayed, or damaged by shipping carriers.
Mail-in repairs are performed on an attempt basis, and some Devices may be deemed not repairable after inspection.
If a Device is found to be not repairable, return shipping and diagnostic fees still apply.
13) Non-Repairable Devices
I understand that some Devices may be determined to be not repairable due to severe damage, unavailable parts, economic impracticality, or risk of further failure. Tekkies makes no guarantee that any Device can be repaired.
14) Communication Consent
I consent to be contacted via call, text, or email for approvals, updates, invoices, and pickup or shipping notices using the contact information I provided. Standard carrier messaging rates may apply.
15) Governing Law
These terms are governed by and construed under the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
